Region 9 - East Central Lower Peninsula

East Central Lower Peninsula is the location of Michigan's "Thumb". The Thumb protrudes deep into Lake Huron giving the Lower Peninsula its unique mitten shape. Highway M-25 traces the Thumb's shoreline for many miles, and along the way are beaches, lighthouses, state and county parks, bird sanctuaries, museums, unique shops and friendly harbor communities. Central Michigan is also home to Frankenmuth where one can enjoy the spirit of Christmas all year long or step back in time at Crossroads Village, a first-hand look at life at the turn of the century. Walk with nature on a stroll through beautiful Dow Gardens or at the Chippewa Nature Center. Refresh yourself during a multitude of events on the Saginaw River and Saginaw Bay. Visit "Showboat City" for shopping in quaint surroundings or first-class entertainment during the Chesaning Showboat.
